The holiday season is all about comfort, connection, and giving a little extra love—especially to those who need it most. For many of us, that love is shared with our pets, who bring so much joy to our homes year-round.

That’s why we’re so happy to announce that nominations are now open for Barrett Veterinary Practice’s 4th Annual A Smile For Christmas.

This special holiday initiative is close to our hearts. It’s designed to give one deserving senior dog or cat the gift of a healthier, pain-free smile—through a fully covered dental procedure, right here at our clinic.

Why we do it

Dental disease is one of the most common (and most overlooked) issues in senior pets. Sore or infected teeth can make eating painful, affect a pet’s energy and mood, and even lead to bigger health problems over time.

But we know how life goes—dental care can be expensive, and it’s often something families have to put off.

A Smile For Christmas exists to lift that burden for one local family, and to make sure their furry friend gets to enjoy the holidays feeling more like themselves again.

Who can be nominated?

You can nominate:

  • Your own senior pet, or
  • A senior pet belonging to someone you know

We’re looking for a pet who truly needs dental care, and whose family could use a helping hand this season.

How it works

Here’s what the timeline looks like:

  • Nominations close: December 31
  • Chosen family contacted: January 2
  • Dental procedure takes place: In January

Please make sure you have the pet’s details and contact info for the nominee ready before submitting.

How to nominate

Nominations must be submitted through our online form.

(We kindly ask that you don’t call or email nominations—this helps us keep the process fair and organized.)

Help us spread the word

Even if you don’t have a pet to nominate, you can still help by sharing this post. The more people who hear about A Smile For Christmas, the better chance we have of reaching the pet who needs it most.

Thank you for being part of a community that looks out for one another—furry family members included. 🐾

From all of us at Barrett Veterinary Practice,

Happy Holidays—and thank you for helping us share a smile this Christmas.
