Meet Dr. Beth Barrett
Dr. Beth Barrett, DVM
Owner of Barrett Veterinary Practice
Dr. Beth Barrett, known to many as Dr. B, has been practicing veterinary medicine since graduating from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in Saskatoon in 1988. She began her career on the racetrack in Winnipeg, caring for racehorses and their unique health needs. From there, she went on to own a mixed-animal practice in Claresholm, Alberta, teach at the vet school in Saskatoon, and work as a locum at various Calgary clinics.
Her passion for animal reproduction took her around the world, including China, Mexico, Tobago, and the Bahamas, where she performed laparoscopic surgery on sheep, goats, and deer to support conservation efforts.
Now, most of Dr. B’s focus is on running her practice, where her practical and down-to-earth approach to veterinary care has kept clients and their pets happy for over 30 years.
Outside the clinic, Dr. B trains her Golden Retrievers, Sako and Snap, who are often seen by her side at work. She’s competed in obedience, hunt tests, agility, and scent hurdling, and even bred and trained “Brio,” the first Golden Retriever in Canadian history to earn the prestigious Master Versatility Certificate. When she’s not with her dogs, Dr. B enjoys riding her horses, Seven and Buffalo, and spending time with her two sons, Jeffrey and Mark, who keep her on her toes.
